REQUEST FOR QUOTE

At Precision Metal Machining, Inc., we were recently approached by a medical industry customer and asked to manufacture 15° and 30° shoulder tissue elevators. The tissue elevator combined new tip designs and a modular handle to give surgeons the ultimate selection of tools for work in the glenohumeral joint and subacromial space. The customer contacted us with this project because they were not getting the service or quality that they required from a different supplier. Our staff successfully produced the quantities necessary for the customer to replace nonconforming devices, which also allowed them to build inventory for their customers.

The project began when the customer sent us the product they had in inventory to see if it could be salvaged. Once it was determined that the parts dimensionally and visually varied widely, we decided that that it would be more expeditious to manufacture new parts. Our team inspected the 375 damaged pieces, and notified the customer of the disposition, but the tight delivery schedule was not compromised. Before manufacturing was even started, we determined that our drawings were inaccurate because the previous supplier had not communicated actual dimensions to us. The engineering staff used their reverse engineering skills and worked with the customer to revise the drawings and update the dimensions correctly.

Using a CNC lathe, a CNC mill, and a Swiss screw machine, 17-4 stainless steel was machined, welded, and finished to Ra 16. The elevators, which were 9.85" long and came in various diameters, were made to tight tolerances of ±.0002". These medical devices, which were manufactured to ISO 13485:2003 standards, then underwent both dimensional and visual inspections. Every month 150 of the tissue elevators are manufactured and delivered to the customer in Florida. To learn more about this project, see the table below or contact us directly.
